Bonjour! The title is hilarious.
Yes, indeed, CheapAssMustard. Sophia dislikes the bourgeois attitude towards furniture. It's all about having well-worn antique furniture from your estate, to show that generations of your ancestors have been established as landowners and aristocracy. Bloodlines will tell in the scratches on the furniture. Taste is inbred in the upper classes who know how to appreciate quality, lol. And if you don't inherit it, by heavens you are going to acquire it, even off the street.
I actually understand Sophia a bit better after seeing a video where she describes coming to the US to study with just two suitcases, one of books and one with clothes and two pairs of shoes. She felt she didn't own anything for a long time, and I guess her habits of acquiring stuff came from that early experience. She didn't own any property and felt she needed to acquire stuff, and of course, she didn't have the money, so off to the thrift shops and sidewalks she went, and her habit escalated over the years. But she's had an awakening now so she has to be sure not to fall back to old habits. I hope she doesn't.. -
.
I hope she doesn't either, two!muchstuff.
Sophia reminds me a little of a friend of mine. If it's free, it's for her, even if it's complete crap. All she seems to view it as is getting something for nothing, and she'll never pass that up even though nine out of ten times she'll regret it after a few days and start looking for people to dump the crap on - all the while acting like she's doing you a favor, too! LOL!. -
.
love the title!
I agree with someone saying she should put the bookcases under the windows in the basement. She should build bookcases under the windows and consolidate all the books there. Eliminate bookcases in the living room too. She did a good job in the office and I think she enjoyed it. All the cheap Target bookcases look really bad. Toss them.
IIRC, Sophia mentioned in the earlier videos that they drove out to Ohio to pick up Scott's grandma's furniture. I'm pretty sure she said it was a rough trip and Scott didn't want to go or something??? Does anyone remember that? She insists on keeping Scott's grandmother's stuff even though he doesn't want them. weird!. -

^I remember that!
Can't remember what they brought back though!. -

I think she did the office renovation while she was out of work. I'm sure that would be a very time constraints project, but I agree some nice big built ins at the bottom of the stairs would look great. Would prevent that area from being a hot spot for various furniture that she dumps there, and would free up so much space elsewhere.
I noticed she said "we like this kind of stuff" in her last video, but I really have to wonder how much Scott likes it lol. He seems fairly indifferent at best (not uncommon for a guy I think). Somehow though, I don't believe that either of them would turn down a makeover or new furniture if they were to win a contest or something.. -

Totally agree.
If Pottery Barn offered to refit her house, I bet her "eclectic tastes" would be dropped like a hot potato. -

She makes me laugh with her justifications.
She's the one who wants to throw away Scott's dresser from his college days. He wants to keep it because of his sentimental reasons. He wants to keep his purple shirt but she wants to throw it away. Soooo how come she's saying she loves old stuff with history and sentimental value blah blah. Only her sentiments matter, right??!! And prefers old throw away furniture from the streets than Scott's old furniture.
SCOTT is tired of moving furniture around , up and down and up and down. "It's a vicious cycle" - Scott
He's probably "oh gawwd, woman! I'm tired of your shenanigans. Be done with it once and for all"!!!!. -

I bet Sophia's quirkiness is why he loves her. At least she keeps him in shape. Ha! . -

Let's be honest, when he was young Scott looked a bit dorky. Navy or not.
Can you imagine him sitting in a cafe...alone...and catching sight of the beautiful waitress, with a sexy French accent (she was beautiful when she was younger).
He drew her picture, wooed her...boom, "draw me like your French girls, Jack"
Going by the pictures she has shown she kept her looks after the kids were born too. He probably didn't realise she'd would turn into the High Preachess as time went on.
I think the reason Sophia declares she has eclectic taste is because they've never had the money to splash out on new furniture. They've made do. Sophia wanted more and pulled it on off the street... but justified it by calling it antique and eclectic.
No one wants old, secondhand street furniture in their house if they could have new.
And new doesn't automatically mean modern and Ikea (as Sophia dismissively says). You can buy quality wood furniture, the antiques of the future if that's your taste.. -

Scott was dorky but he has aged well....Sophia, not so much. She is looking so frumpy lately. I wish she would commit to losing that weight and going to the doctor. I think her weight is due to stress - she has stressed out herself taking care of all that crap that they have acquired. She spends way too much time cleaning that house and those possessions than she does on herself...not good. Scott on the other hand is looking mighty handsome.
I don't think the house looks eclectic, it looks junkie - big difference. She can start by getting rid of those damn encyclopedia sets - it appears she has 2 sets that just sit and collect dust and take up space....I remember a few months ago when she declared how wonderful it was to read them and since has not even opened one and I guarantee the boys never ever look at them.
Too be honest, it wears me out looking at Sophia try to keep her house clean too.
I wonder if they will take a trip this summer somewhere???. -

If she had the money, she could buy REAL antiques, not just reproduction.
I like a more modern/mid-century style and I have a hell of a time finding decent, affordable furniture outside of Ikea. Everything in furniture stores in my city is traditional or colonial - much more Sophia's taste. She buy nice furniture, she's just cheap..
