As for the kids, I do think you're onto something.

It's weird they don't seem all that involved - what do they DO all day? It's sad they don't take time do raise their own kids.

And it's true that Harry can't really go back to UK - especially with how weird he seems if his book is to be trusted. If they divorce and M stays in the US, will he really go back to the UK without his kids? Arrange an international custody agreement? M certainly has enough ammo now to make him seem like a completely unstable man, and she has tried very hard to discredit the family that comes with him. Unless he has some documenting of his own, it'll probably be hard to counter her. He lied just as much as her when it comes to the media.

I remember an actress that was in a situation like that, and it seemed quite horrible. https://people.com/tv/kelly-rutherford-say...custody-battle/

(now, in the actress case, I'm not saying either parent was a villain. She did alledgedly made false report to try and keep them in the US).

Pain, not soreness or tired muscles, is your body's way of saying "STOP, before I make you stop" I was pushing a bit too hard on some tricep work last week and wound up with a nasty cramp that would not go away. My trainer said "Your tricep is protecting itself from your stupidity, back off "

She is going to be struggling to even walk within the next few years if she doesn't get her act together.

If she keeps this up, she certainly isn’t going to be able to run in less time than that. Hey Jen, pain in your feet usually means there is inflammation in your feet, which can restrict blood supply if it is chronic. Your feet already don’t have the greatest blood supply. This can cause long-term, permanent damage to your feet.

Jen really does bring out the asshole in me. I generally don’t have ill-will towards people. But I hope this stupid challenge, and her stupid goal of doing all the Disney races, and another stupid Everesting challenge, ruin her feet so that she can’t run or hike anymore. And it will be too late for surgery to fix it.

So, we know Jen has been shot in the ass with luck, but it is a real possibility, which a lot of people that postpone surgeries sometimes don't think about. That sometimes, it's just too late to go in and fix it. And for feet, it can have a real impact on her life, from the house she lives in to the exercise she can do, along with how she can carry daily chores and outings. And she is all alone to accomodate that. She can't really be counting on her elderly parents to come and haul her around, and I'm fairly certain Don and the Ross are done with her. Her own brother lives kind of far away.

She used to consider paid help to be friends, though, so maybe she'll have an excuse to get a friend?

To be fair, I also didn't know about this thread during the Prince Andrew scandal, and I don't live neither in the UK nor US, which means it was barely a blip in the news where I live. As was the Harry/Meghan thing, to be fair.

I got into this thread when I grew bored of Jen Ross.

That being said - I also agree with whoever said that snarking about powerful and wealthy criminals like Andrew is depressing - since they more often than not get out of it without a trial or with some lawyer wizardry and never get punished. His family stripping titles and keeping him out of the spotlight is not, and never will be, the proper punishment for sexual crimes. I'm not going to cry over a guy that still is provided for and probably eating way better than any of his surviving victims.

As great a monarch and public servant the queen was, she definitely protected her son, and he should have faced the accusations in court no matter who his mother was. And if not her per say, the Firm certainly did. So in a way, I agree with you zizizouzou , but at the same time, it's much more fun to snark about fame-hungry couples that -as far as we know- committed no crimes but shameless narcissism and possibily making King Charles pay for stupid topless dresses for perfume commercials, er, engagement photo shoots and making outrageous demands. They are begging to be trialed in the court of public opinion, and since no true crimes are involved, the circus is free to attend.

I will say, for someone in such a bright, worldwide spotlight, Meghan acts like an idiot with no coherent strategy.

Wow.... anyone with common sense knows this is NOT how you exit a row.

    :hearty-laugh:

Howgreat would it have been if some sort of husher had come to them then and said "wait, this isn't your turn, you're not meant to walk behind the Cambridges".

They probably thought they wouldn't dare do something like that. I wonder, if they do come to the coronation, if they will have some sort of handler to babysit them throughout the event and make sure they behave, or if they will let the stage clear for them to ridicule themselves again.

    God help them both.

They are so selfish, spoiled and stupid. I suspect that it was actually Netflix who feed them to the wolfs. And maybe it is not over. If for the last few years was a favorite sport to profit of trashing RF, it can very quickly become a new profitable thing to trash them. They can find themselves tasting their own medicine. And since they are so stupid, it is possible they will never receive the money promised. Small print and things like that.

The most important lesson from Diana's case is : do not let the dogs in. They will go for your weak points, mess with your head, flatter as crazy, use you, chew you and spit you out, and then profit from your death. And they went and they proudly let the dogs in. In a very short time the whole industry profiting from that appeared. RF will remain silent, because they are not stupid.

So as you said: God help them both.

So Harry's book is next. More attacks on William?

Yes. I think Meghan is a wanna-be celebrity, but she probably expects it more than Harry - that as a public figure, yes, the masses enjoy following you along and knowing about how you like your sandwich cut in half, but also, they will enjoy just as much, if not more, how you fall from grace, and aside from a small percentage, most people will go thank you next when they find someone else they prefer to follow. Which is why she drums up drama and changes stories around and bows as if she is some american ingenue. Gotta keep the character fresh and interesting. But it doesn't work when you are playing yourself and not some TV series fictional character. You have to be coherent about what you tell and what you do. If you say you are shy and hesitant, than you can't be barging into roons in front of you royal husband, shoving him to the side, or barging through rows of chairs in church. I think she was used to reinvent herself with each new partner, but she miscalculated how, when you are as analysed and public as a member of a royal family, you can't correct the lie after it's been told to major media outllet, like you might have done in the past on a mediocre blog or instagram page.

Harry, on the other hand, was a royal from birth, and alledgedly not a bright one, and wasn't trained to be the heir - so he probably doesn't have the same understanding of how fleeting the public's heart can be when all you are offering is yourself and your own perception of your story. Once that is told, if nothing else is coming, people will go see the next movie. And Harry maybe didn't see that coming, because as part of a monarchy, he probably is used to a bit more security - royals and the working royal family have very precise laws and rules that maintain them in the public eyes and popularity. The interest of the media and public was thanks to the fact her was a PRINCE Harry, not Harry himself. One might also wonder if that is also the case for his wife.

    QUOTE (pinksims @ 9/12/2022, 10:43)
I agree with zizizouzou as a fellow Brit, I think the whole concept of a Royal Family throughout Europe is on borrowed time, and they're only allowed to continue to exist because we let them. Popularity is all they have. In the UK, William and Kate and their children are popular, which probably means the institution will be around for a while yet. But during times of financial hardship, like now, the big question mark hangs over the Royal family more than ever. For anything to actually change though, the British public would have to shout very loudly that they no longer wanted the Royals. Whereas usually, most people are fairly 'meh' about them. Which is why keeping their personal lives and drama out of the press is so important to their survival, because anything that makes them look bad threatens their existence.

I personally hate how Harry and Meghan have been conducting themselves. I think that Meghan is a narcissist who is hell bent on becoming a mega-celebrity, and Harry is following her like a puppy dog, while also being extremely spoilt and entitled. They both need to shut up about their 'trauma', especially Harry who continues to whine about losing his mother. Lots of people experience trauma, lots of people experience loss. But of course they are in the Hollywood bubble now, where everyone is constantly naval gazing and having multiple therapists. The quicker they go away, the better.

I hadn't thought about it, but you are on to something about Harry and Meghan - I think they both fundamentally misunderstand the strengh of their claim to any title and royalty - as in, all of this is old conventions and rules that were left to stand because people up untill now thought it was more a hassle than needed. But now, they are making a bad impression, and people are asking to reopen the law to kick them out... it's kind of the first step before having the titles becomes much more conditional to good behaviour, and possibly, just abolished for everyone.

I would say maybe it's why Charles is waiting so much to do that. He wants to slim down the monarchy, but not abolish it completely, but once you start seeing how real and possible it is to remove someone from the Firm, maybe it's not so much of an untouchable institution in the end.

That being said, I still love to follow along the gossip :P

How amusing that, ‘as an American”, she “couldn’t get her head around” having to curtsy to the queen, re-enacting, or over acting her performance. She also made a show of giving the deepest curtsy at the queens funeral.

This California, free and easy chick, in her ripped jeans and bare feet, a self confessed hugger, has issues with so many of these traditions, but has fully embraced the title that was gifted to her, and still uses it for prestige, and continues to use stationery with her Royal cypher. Some tractions are just too wonderful to give up, no matter how much you dislike the system, the family, the country that bestowed the gift upon you.

Not only that, but she supposedly studied foreign politics/relations, and is an actress. How bad can you be at both to not know how to curtsy? To not practice beforehand?

And her "I'm a hugger" thing is bullshit. Like, really? Again, you couldn't be bothered to understand that different people/cultures have different boundaries when it comes to physical contact?

I know she wasn't a real diplomat/embassy staff, nor a particularly good actress, but it's fascinating how she changes the narrative to sell the story of the young and naive American being shunned by the stuffy Old World. It's a cliche in movies, and it definitely doesn't look good in real life. She was nearing 40, and claiminng to be educated and an actress, so being this naive is closer to idiocy and willful ignorance at that point.

I'm wondering if, in her delusion, Meghan thought it would be like in the Hollywood movies, where she would come in with her American ways, and everybody would mold themselves to her teachings and they'd all do a choreographed dance number at the end, before crowning her, as Kate and William wept in the background.

Nope, I’m British and live in the UK.

The UK would still get money from tourists, even if we didn’t have Royals. People would still come and visit the palaces etc. France got rid of them centuries ago and generates more money from tourists visiting palaces and other property that belonged to their Royals, than the UK does.

As for them acting as diplomats, I prefer my diplomats to have studied diplomacy at University and built experience through hard work, and even better, not have colonial ties. Catherine or Camilla swanning around in an expensive dress chit chatting is not diplomacy, nor is William or Charlies sucking up to Saudi Royalty, for example. Our politicians do that anyway, we don’t need the Royals. Other countries are able to do diplomacy, many much more effectively that the UK, without Royals, just with their politicians or qualified diplomats.

I would rather give my £1.30 to people who need it, than one of the richest people in the world. As a tax payer, in a democratic country, in the 21st century, I should have that choice, not automatically support some of the richest people in the world and an antiquated regime based on inherited privilege.

Yes, I spoke about Hollywood because our Royals are just celebrities, like Hollywood ones are. I know staunch royalists like to think of the Royals as useful and special but they are not. The Firm is a business, like Hollywood is, and their PR machine has done a great job making people believe we should continue to support the “tradition”.

As I said, I know my opinions on this thread are not popular as most support the Firm and I respect that. I will never change your mind and you will never change mine but it’s nice to have a civilised debate.

ETA: a good article explaining the Firm’s finances and their immense wealth. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/s...ances-explained

You're 100 % right about France. We're doing just fine without the Royals in terms of tradition, culture, fashion and palaces and tourism.

Instead of waiting with baited breath to see tiaras on the Royals head, we could just be able to go look at them in a museum.

I cannot express how done I am with H & M. I truly have no fucks left to give: with them, it's one temper tantrum after another. I just wish they would ride off into the sunset of irrelevance and ridiculousness once and for all. When does it end?

Always an unpopular opinion on this board but I’ll express it anyway. 😂 I wish all the Royals would ride off into the sunset and go live as private citizens. The whole concept is so antiquated and every single one of them is out of touch with reality.

They make good celebrities but imagine paying millions as a tax payer for George Clooney or Charlize Theron to get married, go to balls or travel to other countries and wine and dine with dignitaries and do an obligatory charity visit. And then, imagine your taxes also paying for their large extended families too.

I don’t think any of them will have the respect of the public like the Queen had, nor the sense of responsibility and duty.

Agreed. They're fun to comment and gossip on, but I don't think a tax-finded Royal Family is a nessessity for a country.

I love tiaras, but as a citizen, it's weird to think I'm partly funding Princess Kate going on a state dinner in a fantastic dress and tiara.

    Sparkling_Water_4444 I agree.
It is an event to make people feel good about themselves. An it is an event for Meghan. She will be most likely paid to be there, she will be admired and felt good. Perfect event for Z-list actress. She will receive an award, have a pleasant time and nice pictures.

It looks that this foundation and Kerry Kennedy are not considered to be 'crème de la crème' of society. Even her brother is making fun of her.

I think that Meghan was shocked when she discovered she will actually have to do charity work, that includes standing still for hours in any weather, travel to the most obscure places and be nice to people she doesn't care for, because they are not important, and other not glamorous things. I think she truly believed she will be living in luxury and her PR will organize nice events, pictures and articles about her and everybody will praise her as great humanitarian.

I think you summed it up perfectly here.

MM wanted to have done admirable things, without actually doing the things, because they are not about being praised.

Which is why she is perfectly content to go get sham awards for her "work", or give paid-for speeches (where SHE paid to do the speech), because she wants to play pretend while wearing a fancy gown, not actually be the real deal.

On another note, it makes one wonder about Harry.

Before, it seems his public personal was overall, of a fun guy, albeit not bright and easily putting his foot in his mouth.

Now, he reportedly only talks about himself and his trauma, and how unhappy he was, and saved he feels (while looking very depressed and angry). He apparently wrote a letter to children of a charity that works with children of fallen soldriers, talking about HIS trauma of losing his mom.

Makes me wonder how much the palace PR team rewrote his public speeches or letters for him to make him look better before he married his wife. Maybe he always was very self-centered, but with his brother, sister-in-law+ PR team influence, they managed to keep it under wraps.

Thoughts on the patreon video :

-The picture frames are alright, I guess, but on her marble-like table, in the grey-white room, a transparent acrylic frame with a grey-toned photo is kinda sad. These are children pictures, why is the whole set up so sad?

-Salt and Pepper bowls... well, I guess, if you know the person doesn't have any. It's just not something you need multiple of, so idk. Grey and ceramic.

-A mug with an inspiring word for someone else? A little piece of ceramic with a word on it?? A bunch of ceramic letters that spell out a word? maybe a gift card for the company, but otherwise, seems a landfill-ready gift to me.

-A candle. A lovely gift for "host, hostess, friend, family, lover, whatever". Try being more awkward with the last one, Jen. Truth to be told, I never used the word "lover [amant]" to describe a partner of mine. That being said,it is considered ridiculously pompous and antiquated in French, which may not be the case in English.

-Winnie is smacking her lips/licking the floor "because she wants treats". Sure.

-A cheap, but overpriced 100 % Polyester throw blanket from none other than "do better" Erin Condren. If she hadn't made that mad story "talking" at Erin Condren plus that ridiculous "iiiick" black sheep planner video, I wouldn't comment, but it shure only needs a bit of printed colors and personalization to appease her. Star Wars themed for her of course. I will say I think blankets are actually not a bad idea for a gift. Everyone can use more blankets in the winter. Although I always hate personnalized stuff, since you can't give it away if it doesn't fit.

-A gift set of lipbalms. Not sure if she is the right poster child for that, but they do look nice.

-A PU purse ("apple leather" is basically apple matter bonded with Polyurethane, which is plastic made from petrol), with EC strap on it. See above for comments on EC. "The high-end luxury bag lovers in your life will like this." I'm not critiquing the bag itself, I actually kinda like the designs of this brand. Just, maybe, this is laying it on too thick. "Maybe for someone who isn't anymore interested in handbags *points at herself*"

-Ora ring. Moving on. 300$. SMH.

"These are things I hope... to probably give myself!" *starts listing gift ideas for herself.*

    WTF?

So, in case you were wondering, she wants :

-toe socks, but no rubber thingies under.

-North face camping slippers. I know a "sucker" product when I see one.

-An arcteryx coat. For some reason, seeing her hoarding high-end, technical gear makes me want to slap her.

-Winnie makes noise in the background as she wants to justify herself for the criticism on her travel guide. Honestly, how could she even think it wouldn't get backlash??? So it's all expensive items because travel is expensive. Stop watching her videos, paupers. "You got to pay up for that travel gear". No you don't Jen. You're just a marketer's dream.

You're right! The comparison was only to say how difeerent it was, as they are both a couple of "former royals".

Seems that Japan did away with peerage when they adopted their constitution, in 1947.

Even before, peerage could either be inherited or earned, as people could choose to adopt a child and name it heir. It also wasn't linked to territories (hence why it can be created at the drop of a hat). That said, seems most of the original peers did originate from old noble families who had owned land.

From a reddit comment I read, while peerage was abolished, pretty much like in any country that did something similar, they form a good part of the one-percent, just more quiet. Maybe Luki knows more?
