That's weird...there was another post on this thread last night that I wanted to reply to, but it's gone today?

Wasn'tme...I'm not saying being "of a certain age" means you collect certain things - I'm just saying Sophie (and my mother's) choice of collectibles seemed to be things they thought had a certain kind of prestige or status symbol value. I see this particularly with the porcelain figurines...that music box bird that Sophie repaired? My mother would have loved that bird...and she would have gushed over it and said things like..."do you know how much this cost new???" And it's mostly things that were originally collected in the 1970's/80's.

I must not be using the right words to describe the giddiness they shared, when they saw something they thought was at one time, an expensive item....and they were finding it at a junk store for $4. LOL

    Were our mothers actually sisters?

Depression glass? 100's and 100's of pieces, pink, green, clear, uranium. Bone china, depression era porcelin, USA pottery and only original red Fiesta Wear...since it was rare. Hummle figurines, Pinky and Blue Boy sets, Capodemonte'....and the antique furniture! When mother passed my father had a 3-day garage sale, just so he could park in the garage. Then after father died, all us kids had a 2-day auction to finish clearing the house.

I have a few special pieces, things that we actually used when I was growing up but I think all the "it's too good to use" stuff was sold at auction. It had no meaning for us kids.

But so much of what Sophie gets excited about, and let's face it....she light up like a Christmas tree when she sees some of this stuff....it's mostly stuff that my mother would have collected. Sophie's taste in collectibles makes her seem like she is about 75-80 years old???

So while most of the younger people here on this site just really hate everything Sophie loves....I don't hate all of it, because it reminds me of my mom.

To be honest, I think if the Santa painting were cleaned it would be much better. Mother loved those "point of light" paintings like that. For the most part, they are not my cup of tea, because they are usually cabins in the woods, or religious themed, but I think that lit pipe in that painting might be cool if it were cleaned. Reminds me of Strider's lit pipe in LOTR...LOL

Some people just have a "collector gene" and Sofia is one of those people. I think her intentions are good, but she just can't help herself from falling in love with things. The trash picking business was probably the worst idea for someone like her because it obviously just feeds her addiction to "stuff." I don't think she will ever change nor do I think she really wants to. She really enjoys her mismatched "eclectic" collection of treasures and can't bear to part with things she saves but are not perfect enough to sell or even perfect things she adores too much to sell. It is what it is. So be it. I am still in awe at some of the nice things people throw out. I have never seen anything like that anywhere I have ever lived.

I think her Radko tree was pretty if you're into that kind of thing, but I will say I cannot stand that Victorian dresser in the dining room. It just takes over the room, looks so out of place and clearly belongs in a bedroom. So why doesn't she move it into her bedroom? It's a really nice piece if you like antique Victorian furniture, but not in the DR, puleeeze.

Her type of "collecting" reminds me of my mother (who would be over 90 now, if she were still living). There is this little PING in their brains and if they think something is "valuable" or "high class" they want it, even if it doesn't match anything in their house. The common theme of the collecting is "status". Sophia is knowledgeable about classic china, pottery, and some arts...she has an eye for picking out certain brands when she's thrifting.

The trouble is, that sort of collecting of status symbol item went out when popped-collar IZOD shirts and ribbon belts in the 1980's preppy fad went out of style. Sure, there are still status symbols for some people ie: real LV luggage, or Birken bags, but the things she collects will only appeal to someone "of a certain age" that still equates that type of stuff with "wealth".

Seriously....I looked up to see how old she is, just to be sure she wasn't my mother reincarnated. They love all the same things. And when mother died almost 30 years ago, it took us weeks to clean out her lifetime of hoarded "it's gonna be worth something" stuff. All carefully wrapped in newspapers, stored in boxes, tubs, cabinets, shelves, closets...etc..etc.

Why just throw all that shit into the hallway while cleaning the bathroom, only to have a 2nd mess? Why not put the trash in the trashcan?

And showing Kally's tampons etc on YouTube? BOUNDARIES PLEASE?

Is this just another hint that Shaylee is favored? She gets ready with mom to cut down on fighting?

Kimmy is obviously suffering from some sort of depression, it is showing on her face, her body language, the clutter and built up dirt in her home.

I can say that, because all those signs show up in my life when my depression gets worse.

I can't afford my therapy anymore, but obviously they can afford it. Please Kimmy, get some help.

Is comments off for anyone else???

I just went to the vlog and scrolled down to read comments and they are off again.

They are also off for Clutterbug, Marriage and Motherhood and a few other vlogs I went to.

They are going to be off for anyone that indicates they make family friendly content. Seriously people...YT just paid $170 million dollar fine. Everythig is changing.

Crankypants, I wonder how how Meg's channel will be affected, lol! They might regret selling that trailer

I think they are all in for a rude awakening - but hopefully with all the petitions and testimony being given in Washington this week at the FCC hearings, they will at least neaten up the wording of the law so everyone doesn't just pull down all their videos.

I think she wont be impacted much at all by COPPA. Her videos are not made for kids....too boring 😂

Oh I think every single "family friendly" channel is going to take a huge hit. And some of them have started putting a line in the description "not for kids" but that won't matter...it doesn't matter what they say - the law says if it "appeals" to kids. So...you have a cute dog in your video? BOOM - it might appeal to kids.

Look, i'm all for keeping kids safe online, but all this vague new law will do is empty YT of any family friendly content.

What does that even mean??? Why would anyone be looking for this? I don't even know what it is...

    Of course she is shopping!

She's writing in telegram style. I don't know how many people would even recognize that anymore?

So, between Kimmy and t.beaston and a couple of other vloggers I've been following it seems like quite a few are on the verge of having complete nervous breakdowns --- has there always been this % of vloggers with anxiety disorders or are the new YT rules sending them over the edge with the threat of loosing their incomes?

Hey, if I was about to loose my cushy income and might have to leave my house and get a job I'd be nervous too...

Oh wait....I've had a full-time job outside the home for over 40 years....yeah....my sympathy just evaporated

40 years! Congrats, you must be very successful 👍

    Nope, just old.

    Again, no Motivational Monday.

She might still be sleeping off Black Friday....

In the last years of my husband's life we decided to only get each other one little "happy" gift (a happy gift is something small, about $10, that is just for fun). Then we picked an experience...like going to see a Christmas show in Branson, or a special adventure while his health allowed it.

For the most part, anything we needed thru the year we got -- we didn't need to wait until Christmas for basic things.

With a family that size, I can see giving necessities like shampoo and basic clothing.

I think she is WAY overmedicating. The slurring/mispronounced words, the huge weight gain, the dark circles under her eyes. I think there is a serious family issue going on, and Kimmy is overmedicating to compensate.

I read somewhere a few years ago that anti-depressants are prescribed in Utah more than any other state, I wish I could figure out how to see if that's accurate --- but it wouldn't surprise me.

Mormon women, having more babies then their bodies can support then being under tremendous pressure to run a household and keep a 2-year food pantry updated/rotated plus volunteer at temple? I won't even start on the underlying sentiment that women aren't good enough to get into heaven on their own, their husbands have to escort them to heaven....that's gotta wear on a person.

I know I respond to "realness" but wallowing turns me off. Kimmy just hasn't seen tuned in for weeks/months.

I've thought it might be her medicaitons, dulling all her emotions and giving her that not-quite-connected look/attitude?

I've read i a few place that lots of these Mommy Bloggers are deleting videos with their kids in them, thinking that will save them from COPPA compliance --- I think it was Jessi Christine maybe, complaining that it was messing with her view analystics? (I could be wrong about which whiner it was complaining)

I hate to think this, but I feel like YT is going to tank. Creators are between a vague rock/hard place, and no matter which option they choose, they face loosing all their income. I'm personally going to hate loosing some of my favorite vloggers, especially the ones I consider educational.
