The new fireplace reminds me of a mausoleum.

    That’s not fisheye though.

Sorry, I'm sure you're right. I tend to think of all the distortion as fisheye (not a native English speaker here). What's the right term? Just wide angle?

No need to apologize! I’m sorry for being a nitpicker. I’m not sure what it’s called. But usually photos seem less distorted if you have room to get farther away. Fisheye lens photos are *really* curved and distorted. But yeah, the photos are certainly distorted. I think realtor photos try to make the rooms look larger.

I don’t think that’s fisheye though. I think it’s due to the focal length of the lens and how close the photo was taken.

Really, don’t bother. It’s just her packing and showing lots of bins.

Edit: Like a TON of bins! Were there even moving boxes? And if not, why use grocery bags to move books? Might as well just put them in stacks and carry them that way. Grocery bags aren’t that strong.

I wonder if the old house has really high housing association fees.

But if cost doesn’t matter that much , why even bother moving (besides that it never felt like her home which most of us never believed anyway.)

Also, I could see needing a house with a big footprint if you entertained groups a lot. But hello? She’s not going to be doing that.

I wouldn’t want a gigantic house. Too much to clean. Especially the bathrooms. Plus it’s a lot of money in furnishings. Plus if she doesn’t repaint, I think she might have to buy a lot of new stuff. It seems like she was really into brown. Not sure how good that is going to look in the new house.

If I had that kind of money I’d spend it on making it look really nice and special. Like hire an architect and build a contemporary place, or buy a really nice older place in a neighborhood with full grown trees and fix it up. Not a ginormous cookie cutter house.

I’m kind of surprised at the selling price of the new place. I guess they think they are actually going to get over a million for the old house. Otherwise, it hardly seems worth moving. But maybe they aren’t as well off as it seems.

Also, if your remodel looks very much like what new builds and what newer “luxury” apartments and condos look like....it’s probably going to look dated rather quickly.

The one she bought is such a generic boring house that there exists duplicates of it on the market :

    Wow! You’re totally right!

This is the house I wanted for her. She has the budget. Apparently. I just do not get it. Her choice of house I mean.

Oh man! That looks soooo much nicer. I didn’t look at the neighborhood, but both the inside and outside have way more character.

Okay, I know a lot (most?) of you hated the old fireplace. The new one is about as opposite to that as it could be. I like the old one way way better. It looks so cold and harsh.

As does the whole house, in my opinion

I agree. All that white and cold grey paint. Maybe the furnishings will warm it up a little. I like grey walls, but you can have a little color in them. These, in the photos anyway, look like black and white paint mixed together.

The house is actually a lot nicer than I was expecting it to be. And the back yard is beautiful. I don’t even think the kitchen is bad, but unfortunately, it doesn’t go with the rest of the house. She/or they have really bad taste in furnishings. And I must be the only one, but I like the fireplace. Painting it white would completely ruin it for me. It reminds me of when people have beautiful wood cabinets and trim and paint it all white because that’s what is popular right now. Ugh.

It surprised me that she studied art history. I’d think somebody that spent that much time looking at art would have better taste than that.
