I have a son and grand daughter who died when a drunk driver plowed into their car.
His wife, my grand daughter's mother, remained in our lives.
She found a new man with three sons and they are all part of our lives.
She is my DIL and he is, now, my SIL.
And I gained three grands.
I have another son who never married, but had a child with a woman, who I referred to as my DIL.
They split up when the kid was two-ish.
They both still come for holidays, along with their new lovers, who are also my DIL and SIL.
Makes it quite peaceful for their boy.
We even sometimes take family vacations with this entire motley crew.
It's actually a very nice dynamic.
I hope their family can pull it off, too.
I’m interested to see how petty or not-petty this all becomes.
I secretly root for not-petty, but Jill might be a snag in the process.
These two families have been deeply enmeshed for nearly 20 years. Does that just change overnight?

I guess what I'm trying to say, mostly, is that it's very easy to jump on that petty-train, but I sincerely hope that somehow they can overcome that and find a way to remain 'family'

When my kids were in preschool they started at 2 and we had parties for every kid in the class. It was hell until upper elementary when it tapered off.. -

Same old Jen. Going through a major life upheaval and she still has the energy to blather on about stickers and cards. When just a couple months ago she had a breakdown while cleaning out her office which was better stocked with stationery than most Papyrus stores.
It takes two to tango and Don absolutely contributed to the breakdown of their marriage. He's a blowhard and a pretty terrible human being in many ways, but if anyone ever put any genuine effort in that relationship, it was him.
I can buy Jen being sad because she's so rigid and always seemed to hate change so of course this isn't going to be easy, but I think her affection for Don extended only to what he could do for her, not at all for him. I doubt she's really going to miss having a husband. If anything, she's pretty much set. She's a mom, so she's got that obligation checked off (I say this only as it applies to her, not that I truly believe this sentiment). She doesn't have to think about anyone but herself, especially when the kids are with Don. I'm not going to bother to speculate what she'll get for spousal support or whatever, because there will be no way for us to know unless she flat out tell us. But she's used his money and over a decade of free time to create a "jobby" that's gained her a large enough following to get the cash flowing in if she decides she wants to do that.
There's no such thing as an easy divorce, but she doesn't have it too bad, all things considered.. -
