My teenager was assigned to watch The Truman Show last week, so I watched it with her. The whole movie they show people around the world tuning in to watch Truman's life. Huge fans, laughing, crying, watching with friends. They show the audience just obsessed with his life. But at the very end, when Truman escapes and walks into the darkness, it cuts to 2 of the viewers saying something to the effect of, "well, what else is on?" I told my kid that sums up today's social media so well. We get obsessed with how many followers, likes, etc., that we have... but at the end of the day we are the only ones that have to actually live our life, and there is a never ending stream of other "influencers" to take your place. You don't really matter to any of those people, and when you're gone, none of them will care. The world will keep on spinning.. -

To parse Jen’s scolding—
I have received messages of concern. People sent her DMs of WHF when she used someone’s suicide for content.
I appreciate that you care means thank you for feeding my ego.
Everyone is healthy and I am grateful for that. This means it frees me up for more me time if people and their illnesses don’t interfere.
I’ve been thinking about what, if anything, to say equals I am completely lacking in inspiration.
The unfortunate truth is that no matter what I say or do it will not be fully understood means I have zero content.
It will be purposely manipulated in harmful ways means if I don’t like if it isn’t what I want. (Jen needs to be reminded that satire is protected by free speech)
I have been bullied. People have cogently pointed out the inconsistencies in what I say, and I don’t like that.
I have been harassed. Again, I have trained my family and EX in-laws to never challenge me. When people challenge me I call it harassment.
I have been stalked. I don’t like that people can read another person’s public Facebook and learn about a house that no longer belongs to me.
Illegal privacy infringement. People are well within the law, but it irks me, so I will call it something it isn’t.
I don’t share the bulk of it. I have whined incessantly about it and have embroidered the simplest things to make them seem worse.
