I have never & would never give any of my kids’ grandparents’ a pictorial guide on how to take care of their grandchildren.
However, in Jen’s defense, I could see how you would leave some kind of guide w/ the grandparents - especially depending on the grandparents.
Some grandparents are very set in their ways & become very “Well, this is how we did it in my day & my kids turned out okay, didn’t they?” & aren’t interested in learning anything new or listening to how their children & children in law might be doing things differently w/ their own children.
To a certain extent, I want my parents & my husband’s parents to have fun with & spoil their grandchildren to their heart’s desire. However, when my kids were little, it did matter to me what they were being fed & how they were being fed.
My mother-in-law cut hot dogs into circles & gave the grandkids whole grapes - two pretty big choking hazards. I HATE confrontation, but I had to gently explain why I didn’t want my kids to eat those things w/o them being cut & prepared differently. And both my mother-in-law & father-in-law scoffed & tried to convince me that kids have been eating hot dogs & grapes for years. They also liked to sneak them chewing gum. So, yes, I was always leery of leaving my kids w/ them.
W/ my own parents, I could be a lot more blunt & say, “Listen. This is how this needs to be done.”

Taken by me with an iPhone from a bald on the Appalachian Trail near the TN/NC state line a couple of weeks ago. (12 mile round trip hike: no pee funnel or poop shovel or solar generator or vlogging equipment or drone necessary!)

I think an important part of their dynamic was for Jen to feel like Don needed her
he may have been making the money but she was steering the ship in that relationship (in her mind). he just walked around clueless at all times about anything and everything
meanwhile Don moved on without skipping a beat and Jen seems to be stuck in stage 1 of grieving a broken relationship...

these pictures are from Starved Rock, a state park about an hour from Jen. Lots of hiking trails there. Sure, there isn't an abandoned power plant there or nuclear waste, but it was fun.
