    I’m Australian, so I’m guessing it would have come from our British roots…. But your comment is the first I’ve realised that it isn’t used more widely

    I'm in the southern part of the US and we use cutlery here. Silverware or flatware is more common, but we would know exactly what was meant if you asked for cutlery.
