I think what she needs to realize is that there’s a difference in where one “solo travels”. I don’t know, correct me if I’m wrong, but I would think that outdoorsy, mountain range, hiking at 6 AM with zero visibility because a fog on steep mountain trails, travel is not something that one finds many solo travelers, Or the traveler bloggers vlog about. I have eaten many times alone and such mountain restaurants during winter Because my families skis and I don’t.But I’m not the only one sitting there by myself with a book during the ski season. But the more I think about it I have really never seen a solo hiker in the mountains in summer. Why? Because one doesn’t hike by themselves in the mountains
I have done some solo trips here and there When traveling for business or I’ve been on my own to do touristy things. I was alone but I actually had things to actually really see museums, visit cities, shopping..Where technically I’m not completely alone
Hiking -alone -is a completely different thing. You just don’t really see that. So I totally get how Jen was getting the vibe that something was off with her being by herself.
I just had a shake my head in disbelief when she said next time she wants to camp or sleep in her car by herself, in Italy. Have fun with that girl. She should try Spain too. Would be A fun test to see if her stuff is still in the car the next morning

CITAZIONE (SteamingPileOfClaundry @ 30/10/2021, 00:53) CITAZIONE (RikkiJones @ 30/10/2021, 00:48) My thoughts were that she ordered extra to have leftovers to take back to her room for the next days lunch. That isn’t really a thing in Europe though. The only place I’ve ever been offered a box for leftovers is Pizza Hut. I guess she could have been wrapping up stuff in napkins or bags she brought with her, but that would be seen as beyond weird. Actually, it's common in Italy too. We often ask to take home the dish my 3yo doesn't finish and no one argues or seems shocked by that. Sometimes they even ask if you want to take something home.

Group touring vacations look SO fun. And if you can afford to go on the more expensive ones they are just amazing. Jen is missing out so badly because she's allergic to socialising.

Wait wait wait. Are you telling me that Gene gifted us a soliloquy about the waiters telling her she ordered too much, and then she went back in and took it away?! Can she even do that??? Even with the trash plates, she had to actually take it down to do that. Did anyone happen to capture it in time?? And to think, I was actually going to watch this one, you all have me laughing so much about it.

QUOTE (Beetrix @ 30/10/2021, 04:52) OMG This is the most recent account she followed She wants to climb Mt Everest!!??? I had been wondering how long it would take before she would have aspirations of climbing Everest. It’s an absolute shit show full of entitled rich people quite literally leaving each other for dead because they have essentially paid to take a photo at the top of Everest and climb back down.

I have seen restaurant staff horrified at some American tourists asking for a to go box. Maybe it varies by region.

I travel solo and when I go to a restaurant I look around at what others are eating to get an idea of portion size, and ideas what to order. Sometimes the portions are huge so I'll get appetizers. I've also had waiters tell me about portion sizes and I'm not offended, I figure they are helping me from making a mistake and appreciate it. Some waiters in the US do the same thing if I haven't been there before, give me a warning so I know what to order.
And I've done hiking trips as well (with a friend as I don't hike alone) and before we go out to eat we shower and dress nicer than we did during the day. I'd never go to a restaurant in Italy dressed like she did. Not totally dressed up but something that indicates no I don't smell because I took a shower and cleaned up before I was around people. And I try to order in the language of the country I'm in, even if I'm pronouncing it terribly wrong. One time I had a waiter take a few minutes, sit down and help me learn how to pronounce some menu items correctly. And this is in places where you don't tip so it's not like they did it hoping for a huge tip at the end.
And then there's Gene.... miserable and everyone is against her.

QUOTE (pinksims @ 29/10/2021, 17:10) QUOTE (Meow2 @ 29/10/2021, 17:09) she is truly such a loser. no one is that concerned with what she's doing yet she acts like ALL eyes in Italy are on her Classic narcissist. Everyone is constantly thinking about her all the time, even complete strangers. I was going to say the same. It takes a real narcissist to assume everyone is looking at you all the time.

QUOTE (pinksims @ 30/10/2021, 09:03) I was wondering if we could plot Jen's behaviour on the Kubler-Ross change curve. The model was originally designed to explain the processing of grief, and honestly I think that's what Jen is experiencing. Losing her marriage, her status, her bubble of the family. It's even more devastating for her because she has nothing to replace it with. Maybe rename it the Boyles-Ross change curve?
Agree with whoever said earlier that the next step is a tattoo to mark her independence.
Step after that is finding another real D and adopting a new persona… that once again she’ll say is her “true self”.
