i don't know what jen did to the italians, but they don't care that you're travelling by yourself. they probably cared more that she was an ignorant american with a video camera, dressed like a slob.

it's normal for someone in a touristy area to ask where you're from, how you thought of that place, when / how you planned. it's making conversation. he probably didn't think he stumbled upon some freak who only travels alone and only plans her trip a day in advance.

I think that there were many straws that broke the camels back one of them being the Disney trip where Jen clearly argued with her in laws because the atmosphere could be felt past the screen, Jen also went into control freak mode and totally dominated the experience with Charlotte and froze Don out despite him footing the entire bill, as well as totally emasculating him in front of his family.
I think the whole vegan bs pushed Don past his limit he was like a champagne bottle and all her selfish and controlling behaviours were the bubbles and he kept them contained until one day the top flew off and everything poured out.
Don was done and there was no going back because even if he only had shared custody the time would be his to do with as he pleased without controlling Jen dominating.
ETA it’s possible that Jen didn’t see it coming because Don may have hidden a lot to keep the peace for the kids plus Jen is so over the top and a professional victim.
