I thought verity was addicting but also not good. I don’t know how to explain that. I couldn’t put it down but it also wasn’t very likable. I personally enjoyed 50 shades in terms of spicy books but mostly because it mainstreamed kink. However I don’t deny that it could be interpreted as problematic in terms of their relationship dynamic. And there are much better spicy books that explore BDSM.

I finished a house in the cerulean sea and I have to say it might be the best book I’ve ever read. It just felt like a giant hug. So relaxing, endearing and magical. Went out and bought in the lives of puppets and under the whispering door to add to my TBR. Going to save under the whispering door for our annual beach trip in august.

Currently reading the last time I lied by Riley sager and it’s fine. I’m only 50 pages in but can’t see it being more than a 3 star at this point. His books are so hit and miss for me. I loved lock every door and home before dark, thought Survive the night and final girls were just fine and hated a house across the lake with a bloody passion.

Either her health is really not ok and these appointments in the city are supposed to be addressing that.. OR (more likely IMO) she has been looking for permanent placement for Andrew and these mysterious appointments are regarding a potential home/funding for such a thing hence why they are so “emotionally draining”.

As for driving I can’t really fault her for that. I’m a grown adult from middle of no where New Hampshire where the interstate is two lanes and you might see 4 cars in an hour drive. It was (and still is honestly) very difficult for me to drive in the city especially if I’ve never been to an area before. I spent the entire year we lived in San Antonio not leaving my house without my husband because I couldn’t get behind the wheel without having a full blown panic attack. Part of my current desensitization therapy is driving outside of my typical bubble by myself. A few weeks ago I parked in a parking garage something that Ive never done and typically don’t even do as a passenger my husband will let me out before we enter the garage. I went book shopping as a reward so there’s that.

Where in the heck did Nessy get these cats from? I'm guessing not a rescue. Usually rescues are quite up front about health issues with their animals. I'm betting Craigslist.

I’m pretty sure at least Bryce’s came from petco because she got one of those welcome to your new furry friend packets they give when you do the adoptions from there. They don’t really regulate pet adoptions unfortunately.

When we adopted our pup in Florida they didn’t even ask for a family vet and the adoption was free. We applied to adopt a cat here in NY and the process has been intense with about 10 pages of paperwork and full vet records for all 4 of our pets being required before we’re even allowed to go look at a potential cat. They even actually called my mom who is our designated pet sitter when we go out of town as well as the boarding facility that we use for our pup.

I am currently reading "Dark Places" by Gillian Flynn and it feels so deja vu - as if I've already read this or something very similar...I guess once you read these type of books they all seem the same in the end lol.

I just finished "The Secret, Book and Scone Society" by Ellery Adams - I really don't understand the comma placement in that title to be honest...it's definitely a cozy mystery. Just a fast and easy read.

My next book is "Verity" by Colleen Hoover - only because I'm intrigued by what has been posted about this book, otherwise I really don't like her writing but I'm too intrigued not to read this one.

I totally agree with you about Gillian Flynn's books...they all just bleed together. But they are so addicting.

As for Verity, it's definitely not a "normal" Colleen Hoover book. I've read one other by her and they are not alike AT ALL.

If you like dark mystery's like that, I would definitely recommend Marcie Rendon's Cash murder mystery series. It's 3 books long so far and she's planning a 4th. It's set in the 1970's and follows a young Native woman Cash Blackbear in North Dakota as she solves murders in her state. I read all three books in two weeks and can't wait for the 4th.

Dark places was my least favorite of her books with sharp objects being my favorite. I’m not sure I’d still enjoy her writing as much as it’s been probably 6 or 7 years since I’ve read them.

I enjoyed verity. It was fast paced and kept me engaged. I haven’t read any other Colleen Hoover books and probably won’t.

I just finished hidden pictures by Jason rekulak and loved that too. I’ve been on a really good kick of enjoying all my reads. Currently reading the house in the cerulean sea and it’s giving every single cozy, gay, magical vibe. Really loving it.

She did say she was driving so idk about her parents going with

I’ve driven from Minnesota to Montana and Minnesota to colorado. Minnesota to Iowa etc. I think she is severely under estimating how exhausting driving that many days in a row will be. I can only do two days being the only adult. For me it’s not safe. And she’s far lazier than I am so this will be the most “work” she’s done in years

We’ve done 4 long haul trips during military moves. Virginia to Texas, Texas to Maine, Maine to Florida and Florida to NY she is going to be miserable and her back is certainly going to give out mid trip. Unless she’s only driving 3 or 4 hours a day.

Watching vee show more crap from a haul - I am wondering if she even puts this stuff away - or is their multiple boxes / bags just thrown in the office or a closet .
I cannot see how or why anyone would want all this crap in their house !!
So the girls have ruined her table with painting …. Why would one let them paint at a table that they don’t want ruined ?
    So strange .
Also why buy them so much art crap constantly ?
Enroll them in an art class somewhere . Surely you have the money to do so 🙄
Also she bought them makeup to wear to the wedding if they want to ?
Aren’t they a little young to be allowed to wear makeup to a family gathering / wedding ?
    So strange .
Also she didn’t share what she’s talking about of course but by the end of the summer she has plans to do something that will make her in the public eye more .
What the hell can that be ? 🙄
If it even happens . No clue why she even opens her mouth about her secret plans and ideas .
And why can’t she take Paige out for a spa day for her birthday or something 🙄
Instead they will all be sitting around the air bnb with dollar tree face masks . I know they aren’t normal
But if I was doing something for my teen daughter who lived states away … I would want it to be a special mom and her type of date to do something .

I agree about Paige’s birthday. Isn’t Paige near Chicago. Get tickets to a show, go to an actual spa for a massage and facial, go to a fancy dinner, go to a fancy shopping mall and let Paige pick out a designer purse or something that will last her her adult life.

But back to the old videos where she was also showing her exercise stats. She was doing okay with her exercise at one time. Getting 8,000 steps in her workout. Yes, it took her 90 minutes, and not the best use of all that time just sitting on a bike for so long, also not sustainable, but it was a start. Anything for a jump start. But she quit before she even gave herself a chance.

The minute she was dealing with DOMs (delayed onset muscle soreness) she gave up. Starting to exercise for the first time in your life after being basically bed bound is HARD I won’t deny her that but as newtons law of motion tells us a body at rest stays and rest and a body in motion stays in motion. You have to push past a level of discomfort and remind yourself pain won’t kill you. This has always been Darlene’s biggest hang up and why therapy also would never work for her. She absolutely refuses to experience, live in and then fight through discomfort. The minute she experiences it she needs to seek a quick dopamine hit with shopping or food or decides to wallow in it and make everyone else around her equally as miserable. She has absolutely zero grit as a person.
She really NEEDS to do something about her physical well being now. Women lose around 5-8% of muscle per decade after they turn 30 by 60 that rate is even higher. Considering her lack of muscle mass now in 10 years she won’t be able to physically move her body weight so she either needs to A. Start and stick with a dedicated strength training program and eat an adequate amount of protein or B. Lose a considerable amount of body fat so her muscles don’t need to work as hard. Preferably both

I’m currently reading Vera wongs unsolicited advice for murderers and having a fantastic time with it. I’m a little over halfway done and just loving all of the characters so far.
I needed a good cozy mystery palette cleanser after binging the first 3 ACOTAR books.
I need help selecting my next read before finishing the last 2 ACOTAR books.
    My options are
    1. The house in the cerulean sea by TJ Klune
    2. Hidden pictures by Jason rekulak
    3. We sold our souls by Grady Hendrix
    4. The soulmate by sally hepworth

#4 I have it from BOTM but haven’t read it. You can let me know if it’s worth the read lol.

Update. Just finished the soulmate by sally Hepworth and really enjoyed it. Solid 4 star domestic thriller. Excellent pacing which is something I find is hit or miss with domestic thrillers.

Ended April with 6 finished books which I’m happy about considering 3 of them were part of the ACOTAR series.
    1. Everyone in my family has killed someone by Benjamin Stevenson
    - 3 stars the beginning was fun and witty but if I had to hear about the damn cobwebbed covered field one more time I was going to rip my hair out
    2. ACOTAR
    -easy 5 star
    3. ACOMAF
-4.5 stars dragged in places but still loved it
    4.ACOWAR
    -5 star
    5. Vera wong’s unsolicited guide for murderers by Jesse q. Sutanto
-4 stars. Super cute and heartwarming cozy mystery. I hope she continues on with the series.

We just went to Sam’s and did a huge Walmart stock up last week
    In our fridge
Fairlife 0% milk, sugar free French vanilla coffee creamer, Brita water pitcher, coffee (which is leftover from when we run a pot in the morning so I can make an ice coffee if I want one in the afternoon), Coke Zero and an emergency can of watermelon monster.
A pack of ultra thin cheese slices for burgers, yeast, better than bouillon both chicken and beef, unsalted butter, pepperoni, entirely too much low fat string cheese because it’s an easy and fast protein source for only 45 calories with 7 grams protein and half a brick of Colby Jack cheese
Apples, cotton candy grapes, raspberries, blueberries and bell peppers
Eggs banana peppers low calorie salad dressing and ketchup
An absolute ton of the light and fit greek yogurt which is our sons favorite snack and gets used for smoothies. Only 80 calories with 13 grams of protein.

Our freezer is equally boring containing probably 20 packages of frozen veggies, ground beef, boneless skinless thighs, chicken tenderloins, turkey sausages, burger Patties with buns, frozen mixed fruit and frozen bananas for smoothies and 2 bags of chicken nuggets

I doubt anyone in that house showers very often. We hardly ever see her buying any sort of body wash and especially with how large they all are she should need a new bottle every 4-6 weeks. Same goes for toothpaste and shampoo.

The pants she bought were a 3x so I looked online and a 3x is staggering 50 inch waist. That must be why she wears her pants down at her hip bones because the largest size at maurices(24w) only has a 47 inch waist.
Now I am considered overweight with a BMI of 30. My pants have a 30 inch waist. Her circumference is almost DOUBLE mine something my brain can’t even process.
  12. .
On the pants she said are a smaller size it’s more likely they are just a different rise/brand/style and not actually a smaller size. Pant sizing for women varies significantly brand to brand and even style to style.
My favorite skinny jeans are American eagle mid rise. I wear a size 10 in them not jumping up and down required I can get an 8 on but they aren’t comfortable.
I went to old navy to try on jeans and tried on the high rise rockstar and a pair of mid rise flares . I needed a 12 in the mid rise flares and a 14! In the rockstar.
I go to Maurice’s (not my favorite store but I needed dress slacks for an interview in a short length and had looked everywhere else close by) while there I decided to try on the mid rise classic flare and fit extremely comfortably into a 8 probably could have also gotten a 6 on and buttoned.
Darlene also seems to wear her pants under her stomach right at the hip bones like low rise jeans from the 90s/ early 2000s personally I don’t find that even remotely comfortable but I assume it is because she can not find pants to fit her at the belly button.

The whole keeping a cat locked in individual rooms is the strangest freaking thing I’ve ever seen. Also who the hell adds not one but two pets to the household right before taking a multi week trip.

Also keep adding more pets to the house when you don’t properly care for the ones you already have. When was the last time the older dog or Polly went to the vet? When was the last time either dog was walked?

Considering I’m over here with a 34B, color me a tad envious

I disagree. I'm a 38F. The boobs are always greener on the other side!

If Darlene's down a pants size in one month, she should be quite slender by fall, right? A size a month - and there are fewer lbs to a size after certain points - and she'll be down a good 150lbs or more in a mere 7 months or so! People who've had weight loss surgery and eat 800 calories a day - not 1000 calories just at dinner! - don't even have such *unbelievable* success!

I agree you always want the bra size you don’t have. I had an A cup until I had my son. A 36DD now and I miss my small chest. The damn things are heavy and always in the way.
