I’m gonna need reminding of the timeline for this “I was a homeowner at 22 *insert smug*”.
She and Don started dating when he lived in the condo, or was it an apartment then they bought the condo? so like 2002 or 2003.
Because I thought it was his. Then she would have moved in after ? Before? they were married in 2005
Then they bought the house in like 2007?
Are we meant to believe he added her to the title of the house for just one or two years? Or did they keep it longer?
It doesn’t matter really, but Jen fucks around with technicalities so I am choosing to be sure of this timeline.

I think “they” bought the condo [with Don’s down payment and credit rating] when she graduated college and they were engaged. She finished end of 2004. I believe they moved into condo in 2005 before they were married in September.
I have no doubt it was jointly titled.

I thought Don already had the condo when they dated? (Part of why she went out with him, lol).
I was a homeowner at 22 as well. We worked our asses off and sacrificed a lot to make that happen. Both of us.

Don had an apartment when they dated. I think they bought the condo (with his $$) after engagement.
The Cook County deeds are a pain to look up from my phone but if you Google Jen, the Evanston address comes up with a January 2005 recording date. If you search the deed it probably has her name on it either from the date it was purchased or she was added after the wedding.
She talked about picking out all the furniture and installing the Elfa closets etc. I think they definitely moved there together in 2005.

I’m not sure how much I’d be bragging about being a homeowner when I didn’t contribute anything of value to the transaction. I’m going to speak in underwriting here but my guess is she probably hindered any home purchase deal more than she helped it…
she brought to the table: not a significant cash down payment, not a strong established credit history (willingness to pay), not long term employment (stability) or high income or earning potential (ability to pay), likely student loans or credit card balances if she had them so a higher debt to income ratio Don would have had to overcome.
Now granted I’m guessing they are not 99%ers who don’t have as much of a margin or a couple who is barely keeping a loan or deal together but still. Being put onto a title to a property your rich husband owns is not exactly the same humble brag as someone who works their hind end off to build up credit, save a down payment, budget, thoughtfully search for a home and truly “earn it” and those bragging rights.
With that said, I bought my first home as a single woman in my early 20’s. Without a trust fund or a rich husband to pave the way - and I have never mentioned that fact in conversation… so unclear why Jin felt she needed to?

Also he may have had a different one bedroom starter condo and then they got their two bedroom condo.
If I get the energy to log into my laptop to look at the dates, I will. Illinois a pain in the butt because you can’t search by name - only address or property ID.
