Part of me wonders if her bunions are causing her to get the larger size for the wider toe box.
I use to have a ridiculously small foot, a women's 4 1/2 and it was hard finding shoes. I only had one pregnancy, due to infertility and my feet did get bigger. I needed to buy inexpensive shoes in a 5 1/2 for the pregnancy. Afterwards my feet shrunk, slightly, but I am definitely a five now, no way could I ever fit into a 4 1/2. Other people told me that it was because of the weight gain, that people that gain a lot of weight, often have a larger shoe size. I'm not thin, definitely overweight but have heard the pregnancy foot story quite frequently.

YES! Unfortunately, I know that one from personal experience but I was smart enough to get surgery when I learned I needed it.
