I went up a pant size or two working there. Dominique is such a sweetheart and that is why I still go there, he was so sad seeing me go. His wife was really into Survival (I have no idea if she made it in) and was bored so she would bring us random stuff from the Lake Oswego location that we did not need. It was awesome working there and on my last day the bakery was filled with customers telling me how much they loved me and wished me well (I only told a few but the word got around).

This is not me patting myself on the back, just contrasting what it really means to give back…
Yesterday my husband and I received a letter from a young man in a third-world country thanking his sponsors for helping him graduate from college. We’ve been supporting this orphanage for many years because it means so much to see children being given an opportunity. We aren’t 1%ers, so we sacrifice to make a difference in the world. Buying Starbucks gift cards, becoming a “producer” for Pantsuit Politics, or spending thousands of dollars to hand out snacks to rich people will never warm your heart like truly helping the needy.
And admittedly, I stopped donating my time several years ago because, well, I’m old and tired.  But there are so many ways Jen’s “privilege” could help the world. But she seems only willing to do something that gives her something in return.
